The Daily Emerald is the University of Oregon’s award-winning independent, student-run newspaper.
A year and a half. 45 articles. Countless staff meetings, Slack messages and hours on Google Docs doing what I love most — writing and editing.
As a Daily Emerald Opinion Columnist, I met weekly deadlines with work I was proud to share with campus readers. Scroll through some of my favorites here.
Events…
I planned our Opinion desk team events, from potluck dinners and picnics to team editing sessions (naturally the PR student became the go-to for sending out event reminders and sign-up sheets.)
Editing…
In addition to writing bi-weekly editorials for the University of Oregon’s student newspaper, I edited them, too! We had many peer-editing sessions where I strengthened my copyediting skills and put my love for grammar to use.
…And More!
Our weekly team meetings became a highlight for my time at the Emerald — we all came with newsworthy ideas and energy to bounce off each other’s pitches. Articles also need research, which often meant preparing dozens of interviews in time for print!
